Full anonymity was ensured throughout the survey while all demographics required were used for analy- sis & verification purposes only. Participants had to complete a questionnaire which was divided into two parts. The first part included de - mographics about ship type, rank, department, gen- der and nationality of the seafarer while the second part focused on key elements of crew welfare: a. Wellness Analysis Method Upon completion of the survey period, all results were listed in a common database for analysis. Indexes for Analysis For each aspect, a specific Index was created which determined participants’ satisfaction level. Sub - sequently, a factor was calculated as the average of the five aforementioned indexes. This factor, called Crew Welfare Index (CWI) represents the status of industry’s welfare. Supplementary to the above, the survey also included open feedback questions asking about sea- farers’ concerns on their wellbeing onboard. Ships In order to avoid wide-spreading of results, spe- cific ship types used as predefined options. The age of ships is referring to year 2023 , regardless the month of built. For example, a ship built on October 2022, was considered to be 1 year old. The below age groups analyzed: a. 1-5 b. 6-10 c. 11-15 d. 16-20 e. 21+ Seafarers All seafarers participated in the survey anony- mously, provided information about: a. Gender b. Age group c.
