2025 SEAFiT Crew Survey: What progress has the industry made in supporting seafarers’ resilience?

Seafarers’ resilience is truly remarkable as they endure long periods away from home, often facing unpredictable weather, challenging working conditions, and isolation. Despite these obstacles, they navigate their duties with determination and adaptability.

Their ability to stay focused, support one another, and keep the global supply chain moving reflects their strength and unwavering commitment. Seafarers exemplify resilience not only in their work but also in their mental and emotional endurance, reminding us of the crucial role they play in connecting the world. This is why the shipping industry continually strives to address the key factors that enhance their resilience, focusing on crew welfare, well-being, and overall motivation.

With this in mind, we are pleased to announce the 2025 SEAFiT Crew Survey, which includes elements of wellness and well-being. Since its launch in 2019, the survey has provided a roadmap for the maritime industry, helping organizations adopt a new mindset towards well-being at both the organizational and industry levels.

This leading industry initiative identifies trends and offers valuable feedback to stakeholders, giving a clear picture of life onboard. The survey will run during Q2 and Q3 of 2025, with preliminary results released periodically, and final reports available later in the year. This will mark our fifth survey on crew welfare, following similar initiatives conducted in 2019, 2021, 2023, and 2024.

A key outcome of the survey is the SEAFiT Index, a crew welfare index that provides a baseline for how welfare issues are perceived and implemented onboard. Additionally, the survey will address key aspects of physical, mental, and social well-being, helping maritime stakeholders prioritize these important topics.
